The artifact that I will be referencing is the following: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SnYc9wToXHLZhJLjanmdPQt9eTscZUQZ2bffdrE74xc/edit?usp=sharing

In this artifact I have taken a look at a classroom situation and reflected back upon it. In the scenario the teacher gets into teaching instructional material way to soon. She does not focus on creating a shared vision or SOPs with the students. The teacher then soon finds herself frustrated because behaviors are starting to present themselves in the classroom. I talk a lot about how it is important to spend the first few weeks to create a positive learning environment. How it is key to take this time in the beginning to create these bonds so the behaviors don’t present them selves as often. When we try to jump right into instruction students are not going to know or respect our expectations.

In my future classroom I will spend the first few weeks on creating a positive learning environment that encourages and motivates students to strive to do their best. To do this on the first few days we will create a shared vision and list of values TOGETHER. From that shared vision then we will create SOPs and procedures as a class. By doing this together it gives them a sense of meaning and belonging. It helps show them that I value them as students and humans, and that I want their input. Also by creating these together before diving into instruction, it gives students their expectations. What is exactly expected of them and how students should behave in the classroom. No new instruction should take place in my classroom for at the very lest 3 weeks. Without a positive and encouraging learning environment, no instruction is going to be meaningful to the students.
