The mentor text assignment really aligns with teaching standard 4. It hits mostly all of the sub points underneath the standard, but I feel more specifically it hones in to the three below:

4 (a) Effectively uses multiple representations
and explanations that capture key ideas in the
discipline, guide learners through learning
progressions, and promote each learner’s
achievement of content standards.

4 (f) Evaluates and modifies instructional
resources and curriculum materials for their
comprehensiveness, accuracy for representing
particular concepts in the discipline, and
appropriateness for his/her learners.

4 (r) Is committed to work toward each learner’s
mastery of disciplinary content and skills.

For this assignment we had to go through and find books that helped support one of the writing genres. When dissecting each book and depicting how it could help the students better understand that genre, I was capturing the key ideas and elements to help guide learner to a higher achievement of understanding. Each book has been pulled apart and broken down into a quick summary, how it best shows the genre, and how to actually use it in a classroom. By having that last part for each book of how to use it in a classroom, it shows that the content of the book as been evaluated. For each genera the book that is used gets modified. By having this resource made it helps prevent the same book being used over and over. Rather there are many examples and supports that have been created, that the same one should not be used constantly. Also if a book is picked to support a genre, and the students are struggling to connect it, modify it and try and pick something that they can connect easier with. By creating this source of books it shows the drive we have to teach. I went through many books outside of this list and narrowed it down to a few that would really help support the specific genres. By taking the time to find the resources that will help the students shows just how committed I am to help guide these students to master content and skills.
