I have chosen my writing portfolio to represent standard 8: instructional strategies because, it represents several different forms of writing. Through assignments like the quick writes students can express themselves in many different ways. This type of writing does not limit the students in one way of writing. Using all the different genres of writing does a similar thing. It allows them to expand their horizons and use a variety of strategies. By building their tool box with all these different strategies students will gaining, they will be deeper developing their skills of writing.

My mission in the classroom is to give students as many tools in their toolboxes as I can. To build them up with different styles of writing, and how the different genres sound in text. By doing this my hopes are that not only will they find a genre that they enjoy writing but they will also feel comfortable writing in all styles. Though they wont love writing in every style, if they were asked to write in a way my hope is that through what I taught them, they would be able to do so. It is also important to me that when my student leave my classroom they have at least tried writing in one new way then they have before. My vision of this is to do quick writes to start the day and try them in different styles. The students can really explore a lot of different styles. Free writes will be open to choice for student to explore what we have learned and they will be encouraged to try new strategies.
