Feelings, thoughts, and ideas on experiences to help form teaching pedagogy
February 8, 2022 (First fieldwork visit)
Today was our first visit to JFK, I was with Mrs. Berube. It was such a great time and I had a lot of fun working in this classroom. Even just being in there for an hour so far I can tell Jamie is really dedicated to what she does, and tries to meet all her students needs. I liked her teaching style and how she used an engaging way to go through the letter sounds and blends. Being around kids so much, it was easy for me to blend in and help the kiddos with what they were working on. Today they had to start by writing a non-fiction story with a 4 star picture, then work on a TH blend page. I think it is going to be really beneficial working with Jamie and that I am going to be able to learn a lot from her.
Overall working with these students and teachers at JFK has been very valuable this year. The amount of information that Jamie was able to offer to me was just amazing. The way she runs her classroom is like a little family. We have talked in classes about creating a school family but in her classroom I was able to see the meaning come to life. It was great to see how she speaks so positively to her students and never raised her voice to them. When she needed her voice to be louder to get their attention she had a way to do it but still not be loud. It is hard to describe the magic she created in the room, and it is definitely one I will look back on often.
